Wimbledon 2014

After all the excitement and preparation (think strawberries and cream complemented with Pimms), Wimbledon is finally over… and after the anticipation and intensity over the past two weeks, here’s a round up of this year’s event – both on the court and off, let’s re-live our favourite moments.

For the anticipated finals of Wimbledon 2014, Novak Djokovic, 27 (SER) claimed his second Wimbledon crown by defeating Roger Federer, 34 (SOL) with a five set match resulting with 6-7 (7-9) 6-4 7-6 (7-4) 5-7 6-4 on Centre Court lasting, three hours and 56 minutes. Unlike the women’s final which was the quickest centre court final match in 31 years, lasting a measly 55 minutes; resulting in Petra Kvitova, 24 (CZE)  defeating her opponent Eugenie Bouchard, 20 (CAN). However, I’m sure it wont be the last time we hear of Bouchard, as this was only her first Wimbledon competition after conquering the junior competition.

Unfortunately, even after all the hype, the attendance over the last two weeks was lower than last year, which was the highest of all time, with the total for the 13 days of The Championships: 486,898.

As well as the huge buzz around the tennis, you must admit celebrity spotting is always on the agenda throughout the competition. Throughout the two weeks over 50 celebrities attended the event including a selection of Hollywood’s finest, amongst royals including the admirable Prince William and Duchess of Cambridge, with the Middleton immediate family members also attending throughout the competition.

One of the lookout objectives is to see the Wimbledon trends and who is the best dressed. This year a lot of floral and lace made an appearance among the women, and Victoria Beckham showcasing an exclusive dress from her upcoming SS15 collection. Suki Waterhouse also got heads turning in her stand-out colourful cropped shirt and skirt.

Here is a quick recap of the incredible drama which took place in the 13 days of Wimbledon.
