The Review: The Alchemist Newcastle

Last Thursday the Jules B team were delighted to attend the launch of The Alchemist on Nelson Street, Newcastle. This place is guaranteed to bring a little magic and imagination to Newcastle’s already thriving restaurant scene and we couldn’t wait to head down and see what The Alchemist is all about.

Somewhat reflecting the rich history of the city the restaurant boasts a perfect blend of old English appeal and a contemporary studio aesthetic with a mix of industrial lighting, parque flooring and cosy nooks and booths to sit in. Menus reflect the fun alchemy theme with a periodic table style layout offering their own take on ‘The Dead Red Zombie’ and cocktails topped with dry ice such as the ‘Lightbulb moment’ which comes highly recommended from our team.

Don’t miss out on watching your cocktail being made at the bar by the restaurant’s talented staff creating what can only be described as concoctions using Bunson burners, cauldrons and conical flasks. A variety of beers, spirits and a wine list is available, but we recommend giving their unique cocktail menu a try!

We’re pleasantly surprised by the food menu, with a wealth of recognisable pub-esque dishes, all with their own unique Alchemist twists it’s certainly on our list of places to dine. And with it’s early and late open hours, double fronted exterior open to both the outside and indoor shopping areas of the city, this is a great place to take the weight off your feet and enjoy a cocktail or a light bite mid-shopping trip!
