The Northumberland Plate Festival and The Best Dressed Male

Far from being a children’s story like the title of this blog may suggest, this year Jules B is honoured to host the Best Dressed Male Competition at the annual Northumberland Plate Festival in Gosforth Park . The festival itself has been an iconic North East extravaganza since its inauguration in 1833. What was once the most celebrated local event of the summer, with miners referring to the whole event as ‘race week’ and taking holidays to enjoy every moment of the action, transformed into a regional calendar highlight. Today the festival draws in tens of thousands of eager race goers, each year, all hoping to win big and indulge in a day of luxury.

High stakes races act as the main attractions and include the coveted John Smith’s Northumberland Plate as well as other trophies and previous winners have gone on to win big at Ascot, Aintree and the St. Leger.

Have a look at the video below for more information about the course.

In conjunction with ‘Made to Measure’, the Jules B ‘Best Dressed Male Competition‘ is a whimsical twist on the Ladies Day yardstick of Best Dressed Female. The competition hopes to celebrate men’s fashion in a whole new light and as our very own PR and Marketing manager Adam Mooney states:

” Men are taking a lot more pride in what they wear and how they present themselves and rightly so! Why should it only be the ladies that get to have fun with fashion when there is so much choice out there for the guys? It is a proven fact that when you look good, you feel good and men are cottoning on to this every day”

and we completely agree, the rise of men’s designers over recent years has sparked a new found pride in men’s fashion. It is no longer the women who take the longest in the bathroom or deliberate for hours as to what to wear for that all important occasion. As men embrace fashion we want to celebrate those who choose to express themselves through iconic design and impeccable taste.

Jules B itself has been a retailer of fine clothing since it opened its doors in 1986 and dressing stylish men and women of North East has become second nature to the husband and wife duo and the rest of their dedicated team. Today it has over seven UK stores and promotes a large e-commerce business with emphasis on design and quality. So who better to host this prestigious competition!

The contest is set to be held on Saturday the 28th of June,  at Gosforth Park with a number of fashion savvy and style conscious judges on hand to spot those Best Dressed Males throughout the stands. The First Prize will be the winner of an exclusive made to measure experience and a suit to the vale of £1000, whilst the runners up will take home a luxury shirt from Swedish tailors Eton.

So what are the judges looking for?  Mooney explains more,

“We have a mantra here at Jules B which is ‘You only get one chance to make a good first impression’ and at an event such as the Plate this couldn’t be more appropriate. So dress to impress, we’re looking forward to seeing you all there.”

It’s a wonder you’re not planning your show stopping ensemble already but if your stuck for inspiration have a browse over the Made To Measure Catalogue here.

Best of luck to all and we hope you enjoy the day!
