The Great Yorkshire Show

The Great Yorkshire show is Britain’s largest agricultural fair, taking place at the Great Yorkshire Showground in Harrogate from 14th-16th July 2015. Described as ‘England’s premier agricultural event’, the show attracts huge crowds in excess of 130,000 over three-days.

Boasting trade stands in a vast range of categories spanning equine, lifestyle, agricultural, homeware, food & drink and, of course, clothing with renowned labels Joules, Crew Clothing and the Yorkshire Clothing Company attending for your buying pleasure. There’s even a ‘Discovery Zone’ for the adventurous looking to learn new skills like martial arts or carpentry. Or for those looking to just take in the view, there’s the Leeds City Museum & Galleries to browse at your leisure.

You’ll see thousands of Britain’s finest cattle, sheep and pigs, alongside over 2000 horses in top class show jumping, equine classes and other animal contests such as sheep-shearing competitions. You will also be able to see demonstrations of cutting edge forestry and agricultural machinery, birds of prey and traditional blacksmiths. In the main ring there is a spectacular programme of military displays, band performances and a host of equine events and parades, including the one and only crowd-favourite, the Shetland Pony Grand National! One of Britain’s largest Cheese and Dairy Shows is among the highlights of the event’s busy programme and the popular Food Hall proudly showcases the region’s very best food and drink. The Garden Show gives visitors horticultural hints and tips, national and regional designers are featured on the catwalk in the Fashion Pavilion and some of the region’s top chefs share their culinary skills in the Cookery Theatre.

In addition to its stature within the British agricultural industry, the Great Yorkshire Show has developed a famed status for attracting the cream of the fashion crop when it comes to outdoor heritage styling. This annual summer show appeals to affluent, fashion savvy individuals with a country background.

For gentlemen wishing to make a dapper impression in the hospitality suite, we suggest a smart blazer over a crisp shirt and silk tie with tailored chinos or a pair of corduroy trousers for a luxe finish. Complete with a slick pair of Jeffrey-West boots for true country appeal. You never know what the British summer weather will throw your way so pack a pair of sunglasses or even a straw trilby for the more style-conscious gent.

If an adventurous day out with the family is what you’re looking for then we’ve got your casual options covered as well. Gents can choose from our extensive selection of jeans and comfortable trousers to pair with smart, sporty polo shirts and a trusty Barbour jacket for true heritage-inspired protection from the changeable British elements. Durable footwear is a must so don a pair of fail-safe trainers or boots (mud levels permitting) and accessorise with a pair of sunglasses and perhaps a flat cap for true country appeal. Also – pack a pair of wellies, for good measure!

For ladies aiming to stun in the style stakes, we suggest a midi-length dress or a two piece ensemble in a breezy colour palette to exude sophistication and a considered feminine air. Accessorise with a pashmina or statement jewellery and a pair of designer sunglasses to complete your look.

If channelling casual chic is more your thing, then dress for comfort in a reliable pair of jeans paired with long boots to look after hard-working feet all day long. Classic check shirts will effortlessly complement a Barbour jacket – a fashion fail-safe come-rain-or-shine, and a requisite to authentic country style. Plus they’re full of pockets so you can forgo the hassle of carrying a bag round all day (bonus). To complete your look, add a contrast scarf or fedora hat (or both), to sunglasses to cover your accessory needs whatever the weather.

You also may want to invest in a classic British staple accessory – the umbrella, so you’re prepared for anything the weather has in mind!
