‘The Family Man’
Today’s staff spotlight takes a step closer to family life, as we focus upon one of our retail assistants, Scott Lamb, and his time at Jules B.
Retail isn’t for the faint of heart; it’s a fast-paced game and demands a constant attention to detail. It means that only those who have that certain je ne sais quoi can really excel in their work. That’s were our front of house staff shine, always at the top of their game and with a passion that’s unrivalled by any other, they’re always there keeping our clients happy.
None more so than Scott Lamb, a retail assistant located in our Jesmond Menswear store. With a smile that’s permanently fixed on his face, he always projects that friendly, welcoming atmosphere we’re so renowned for. I managed to chat with Scott about what he thinks of his time at Jules B.
So, Scott, how long have you been with the company, and what brought you to work here?
I’ve been with Jules B for about two-and-a-half years now and counting. I’ve darted about in retail quite a lot, but what really drew me to Jules B was its reputation. I really like the ethos behind the company and it has a real sense of personality. The hands-on approach that Julian takes with the business lets me feel a lot more involved than I might’ve done somewhere else.
What about your time outside of work, what do you usually get up to?
Everything I do involves my family, I spend a lot of time with the kids and the wife at the weekends. We’re an active bunch and I always take the kids to football. I generally like to get in some time at the gym as well, it’s all quite busy!
Sounds like it, but it’s great to see someone with a busy family life still take pride in his own appearance. What advice would you give to others in a similar situation?
I think it all comes down to making that extra bit of effort in your appearance. I’ve always believed that first impressions count, and I take that very seriously. Obviously having a young family has its demands, so I think the easiest way to get by with that while still looking sharp is to simplify everything. Keep things straightforward yet smart, don’t go over-complicating your outfits too much and you’ll save a lot of time. Quality clothing and thoughtful consideration are all that’s needed to keep yourself stylish.
What would you say is the most rewarding part of being a part of Jules B?
It really is difficult to pick out just one aspect, but if I had to choose I’d probably say the relationships with my customers and the team are the best part of the job. The more personal aspect of working here creates a sort of extended family between us all. Colleagues become friends, and so do customers too. There’s a real shared sense of loyalty to the brand from both our clients and our staff, which gives me a brilliant feeling of belonging.
Finally, with the new SS19 season entering full swing, which pieces do you think will really shine in your summer wardrobe?
Well, keeping in line with my concept of keeping things simple, I’m really taken with the new ranges from Paul Smith, Les Deux, Baldessarini and Stenstroms. I think picking a few pieces from these would give off a really sophisticated yet casual look.
Come see Scott in our Jesmond store, Mon-Sat 9.30am-5.30pm.
