Spring Trends: The Statement Necklace

Is statement jewellery the new summer essential? We’ve seen sunglasses and flower crowns take hold of the style stakes but this season, models attending Coachella channeled simple chokers, oversized necklaces and experimented with neck scarfs to accessorise their summer looks. Taylor Swift has even taken to Instagram decalaring, “I feel like maybe chokers are the new flower crown.”, along with a gaggle of her friends donning the trend. While the choker is a much grungier approach to festival dressing, there is a distinct 90’s vibe encroaching on the summer scene. Could this be the end of the free-spirited hippy-esque trend and the start of an edgier aesthetic for the green festival fields? We take a look at some of Coachella’s style savvy attendees and their statement jewellery below.

Suki Waterhouse

A classic velveteen choker with star embellishment reminiscent of hit TV series Charmed offsets a distinctly loose fitting lightweight ensemble perfect for warm summer days.

Freda Pinto

Actress Freda Pinto’s statement jewellery is almost tribal with a bold gold toned pendant accenting a simple neutrally toned look. The Jules B Zen Collection reflects this effortlessly with horn pendants, wood carved into cuff bracelets and chunky appeal perfect for your spring/summer looks.

Kendal Jenner

It doesn’t get more ‘statement’ than Kendal’s embellished choker style necklace. Starting with a short cord, and leading to intricate beading and mirrored studs to elevate a simple maxi dress. London based brand Butterfly emulate this look with oversized cuff bracelets, beaded bangles and embellished oversize necklaces full of summertime colour.

Taylor Hill and Romee Strijd

Simple ensembles are elevated with the age old neckerchief and a simple multi strand necklace. Get experimental and try a neck scarf or silk handkerchief to accesorise your looks. Or go simple and timeless like Romee with an elegant silver necklace.
