SELFIE SOMBRERO

Central Saint Martins fashion designer, Christian Cowan-Sanluis, has recently collaborated with Acer UK on producing a one-of-a-kind couture selfie-hat. The unique sombrero features an integrated tablet which spins 360-degrees; enabling struggling selfie takers to find their very best angle.

A self-portrait photograph, typically taken with a hand held digital device such as a smartphone, is now most commonly known and referred to as a ‘selfie’. Initially popular with youthful females, selfies have gained wider popularity throughout 2010-2012. By 2013, the term ‘selfie’ had become part of mainstream society and commonplace enough to be included in the online version of the Oxford English Dictionary as well as being the ‘word of the year’.

Christian Cowan-Sanluis is a first year fashion student who has already worked with and dressed some of the world’s most A-list fashion icons, such as Lady Gaga and Rita Ora and presented copious collections at London Fashion Week.

The act of people taking pictures of themselves has never been as ubiquitous as it is today, an indication that society has reached peak narcissism – and consequently, 20-year-old Cowan-Sanluis x Acer have launched a giant, glittery selfie-taking sombrero which features a top of the range tablet dangling off the side, as part of their autumn/winter 2014 collection.

As well as taking the perfect selfie from multiple angles, users can also access social media such as Facebook and Instagram to share their #hatselfie. The £599 couture hat has been dubbed the ‘Christian Cowan-Sanluis x Acer Selfie-hat’, merging Christian’s unique and playful style with the Taiwanese tech firm’s superlative technology. Available to buy by appointment only in central London, the selfie-hat consultation includes a personal, detailed introduction to the hat and its functions. As part of the collaboration, Acer and Cowan-Sanluis have also produced 10 limited edition tablet cases with accompanying detachable mini hats in the same style and colour as the sombrero.

Taking a selfie has never looked better!
