NYFW S/S ’15

As we enter a new season of Fashion Week it is clear that the traditional catwalk show is going nowhere fast.  New York as ever emulates that cool, New Yorker vibe it is renowned for as the collections merge sophistication and innovation effortlessly. As the trends begin to emerge and we prepare for what London has to offer, here is the ultimate low-down on NYFW S/S ’15!

The Key Trends

The white-out trend has been a consistent look for the past few seasons, with winter whites equally as relevant. Zac Posen,  Prabal Garung and Jules B brand Alexander Wang demonstrate how best to cut out the colour with an array of androgynous tailoring, sheer panelling and delicately engineered chiffon pieces. Possibly the biggest look of next summer, the sports luxe vibe is back with a vengeance. Mesh has so far been New York’s choice of fabric with Alexander Wang, Philip Lim and DKNY all embracing active-wear chic. The trend is both practical for the warmer months and oozes effortless style impact, especially when teamed with more contrasted feminine pieces!

Rather than daring to count ‘floral’ as a trend we are pleased to introduce shades of pink. Oscar De La Renta has set the bar with a beautifully crafted collection of softed pink designs, with florals incorporated.  Jenny Packham showcased the look with delicate and feminine forms whilst Carolina Herrera used blow up floral designs and the palest pinks to make a bold but pretty statement.  Think summer weddings and garden parties! If there is one thing New York always does well it’s minimalism and monochrome. At The Row there was not a seam or fastening in sight as stunning and simple draped garments graced the catwalk. It was all clean lines and muted tones with Victoria Beckham, Narciso Rodriguez and Jules B brand Rag & Bone. At times the excessive uses of dark hues and duller hues has felt more like a fall collection but it is refreshing to know that we can still get away with our beloved blacks during the warmer seasons! Shop the monochrome trend now online at Jules B!

The Front Row

David and Brooklyn Beckham showed their continuous support and pride at the Victoria Beckham show last Sunday whilst Nicki Minaj, Rihanna and Lauren Hutton sat FROW at Alexander Wang.  Anna Dello Russo, Alexa Chung and heavily pregnant Russian girl-of-the-moment Miroslava Duma lit up the front row at Jules B brand Marc by Marc Jacobs.

The Parties

We saw Fashion Rocks on our Snapchat live feed and we were feeling pretty jealous that we weren’t attending the annual charity fund-raising event. Fashion Rocks collides the it crowds of both the fashion and music industries in a one night extravaganza showcasing designs by world leading fashion houses, as presented alongside popular music performances. Justin Bieber reportedly stripped down to his underwear during the show whilst Jennifer Lopez performed her new single.

Alexander Wang

Although it is rumoured that Wang hijacked an underground dance party held by a friend of his by turning up with thirty plus friends after his show on the Saturday, we love hearing about the notorious Alexander Wang after parties, official or not! What really made this party a talking point was Miley Cyrus’ antics after she appeared topless with only ice cream cone nipple covers on!

The One to Watch

The styling and beautiful tailoring at Chadwick Bell this season has put this designer fully onto our radar. With clean cut white lines, a fascinating use of leather and fantastically styled and edited campaign inspired by the Los Angeles scene we are excited to see what is next. The collection is somewhat reminiscent of Phoebe Philo’s work at Celiné and there can never be anything wrong with that!
