It’s that time of the year again, when the world’s fashion insiders gather to preview the collections of the biggest and most prestigious brands represented at New York Fashion Week. Boasting the presence of the likes of Anna Wintour,David Beckham and even rock legend, Steve Tyler, the shows this year proved to be mesmerizing display of loose-fits, bold silhouettes and minimalism.
Alexander Wang exhibited thick stripes, earthy tones and loose-fitting skirts with high splits cut from 90’s inspired denim washes. Hard-face models wore chunky, metal-clad sandals or plain flat sneakers, creating masculine silhouettes and an overall gritty-chic aesthetic. The designer’s urban inspiration takes the fore in this collection with cropped statement jackets and accents of leather and snap fastenings.
Rag and Bone displayed some interesting, feminine pieces for next season. With simple cami-dresses teamed with chunky sneakers – The combination worked beautifully. It was yellow and a contrasting black as the main colour theme for this show with sharp bursts of yellow flashing in laces of sneakers, chunky knits and dresses. Overall, Rag and Bone showed us some beautiful feminine pieces teamed on the catwalk with essentially masculine components such a chunky flats and boyish blazers.
Michael Kors introduced bold poppy embellishments, layered dresses and floaty layers for his spring/summer ’16 collection. Oversized trousers teamed with notched lapel jackets in a mono-colour way led to low cut poppy-red dresses and studded tassel skirts, all tastefully cut to accentuate a light feminine aesthetic.
