National Geographic reopen the greatest annual photography competition in the world. From the 1st September – 31st October 2014 professional photographers and amateur photography enthusiasts are invited to submit pictures that truthfully reflect the captured moment in time, with little retouching and editing. As National Geographic is renowned for their outstanding photographic excellence, they set the standard for entries that capture the world we live in, within three main categories: nature, places and people.
Last year, the competition received over 7,000 entries with participation from across the globe, proving to be a huge success. In January 2015, the grand winner will be announced and they will receive $10,000, as well as a trip to Washington DC to participate in their annual photography seminar, which is held at the National Geographic Headquarters.
Strict guidelines must be followed in order to ensure a fair representation of our planet. The images submitted must be unmanipulated with realistic colour balance and sharpness, allowing for basic digital enhancements and alterations, only when needed. Photographers may be asked to produce original images for investigation.
