Milan Fashion Week: Men

Milan Fashion Week concluded on Tuesday showcasing the latest up and coming trends in Men’s fashion. Launched in 1958, Milan Fashion Week has cemented itself as one of the big four fashion powerhouses in the world, attracting the fashion elite to watch the highly anticipated shows at MFW: Men. With relaxed tailoring and eccentric prints, Milan brought an array of fashion to the table. Leading fashion names such as, Emporio Armani, Missoni, Vivienne Westwood and Versace amongst more Jules B favourites rallied to showcase their latest Spring Summer 14 collections, with the aim of promoting Italy’s fashion talent to the world. So here’s a quick overview of the collections that stole the show….

Emporio Armani

Emporio Armani  pushed the boundaries of stereotypical men’s fashion creating revolutionary fashion- forward looks. Smart formal suits were replaced by casual knitwear under styled jackets, creating the new ‘upper casual’ look. Giorgio Armani stated after his Spring-Summer 14 collection runway that ‘the traditional tailored jacket is out of fashion.’  Showcasing a neutral pallet of relaxed summer short suits the casual looks continued, with satin fabric dominating the show. This playful, off-duty theme became Armani’s signature look for the new Eponymous line. To browse this season’s Emporio Armani collection at Jules B click here.

Inspired by West Africa, Missoni’s Spring Summer 14 collection encapsulated the heart of Africa with its sand colour pallet and notes of of red and blue. Angela Missoni’s fusion of high fashion and casual safariwear is what really set this collection apart. With relaxed but smart tailoring layered over Missoni’s signature weaved sweaters the African inspired theme continued. Leather accessories reflected the collections inspirational origins, whilst the clashing aztec prints added instant character to Missoni’s designs. Vivienne Westwood

Westwood’s latest SS14 collection, showcased an array of eclectic prints alongside a bold colour palette, creating an all round casual, relaxed style. However, in true Westwood style, the British designer pushed her eccentric fashion a step further, by dedicating her Spring Summer 14 collection to Bradley Manning  (a U.S soldier currently in prison for leaking classified material to the website WikiLeaks). Making a political statement with her collection, Westwood printed ‘truth’ across various designs to broadcast her opinion on the subject. For Versace’s Spring Summer 14 collection the image of the masculine man was embraced, with heavy weight leather jackets, leather  trousers and extensive metal hardware all creating a sleek punk edge. Altogether Donatella  successfully hardened the modern day man. In true Versace style, clashing hues of aqua, gold and fuchsia were used to enhance each meticulous design. Versace’s collection was bold, brilliant and shiny- double breasted suits and metallic shirts took centre stage.  To check out latest women’s Versace Collection range  click here.
