On Monday 11th February the annual Elle Style Awards took place at The Savoy Hotel in London. Members of Team Elle attended along with designers, models, actresses and socialites, all of whom were dressed to the nines. Awards such as Best Actor (which went to Bradley Cooper), Breakthrough Performance (Samantha Barks for her role in Les Miserables) and Best Music Act (Emile Sande) were all presented by various figures in the film and fashion industries. However, the award we were most excited about was the Contemporary Brand of the Year Award, which was presented by Juno Temple. The award went to none other than McQ by Alexander McQueen, the diffusion brand of Alexander McQueen of which we are proud to be a stockist. You can shop the McQ by Alexander McQueen SS13 Collection on the JulesB website right now.

The award was received by supermodel Kristen McMenamy who closed the McQ show in AW12. The AW12 McQ Collection marked a pivotal moment for the diffusion brand when the creative direction of McQ by Alexander McQueen was brought in-house; meaning the creative director of Alexander McQueen Sarah Burton would oversee all design and creative decisions. This creative decision makes McQ as a diffusion brand very powerful, as the design and production aesthetics will be linked closely to the high end fashion of Alexander McQueen. As Kristen McMenamy closed that milestone show, it seemed fitting that she would receive the award on behalf of Sarah Burton who is currently heavily pregnant.

As a label, McQ by Alexander McQueen is a dilution of the luxurious fashion aesthetic of Creative Director Sarah Burton with pieces which are intended for every day wear, rather than the more couture pieces of Alexander McQueen. The designs still sit in parallel with the rich archives of the fashion house, ensuring continuity between the two lines. McQ by Alexander McQueen offers womenswear, menswear and accessories, all of which are wearable and contemporary.
