You thought you’d never hear her name again, and you can’t believe she’s turning 70… that’s exactly what we thought when we heard the news that pop-icon Cher would be gracing the Marc Jacobs AW 15 ad-campaign with her unmistakable, trademark long black locks and pale complexion. The campaign, photographed by David Sims and styled by Katie Grand comes as no great surprise as Cher was the plus 1 hanging on Marc Jacobs arm at the Met Gala earlier this year.
But Marc didn’t stop there, last week it was announced that he would be adding trend-setting Willow Smith to the mix, who shot to fame as the daughter of the original Fresh Prince, Will Smith. Aged 14, Willow already boasts her own clothing label, taught us all how to whip our hair back and forth with her debut single, and has caused numerous media stirs, in particular a number of fashion controversies… We all remember Willow sporting that #aintnowifey t-shirt and questionably backing the Free The Nipple campaign!
But this wouldn’t be the first time Jacobs has strayed away from the norm. Among the brands ad-alumni are Miley Cyrus, Winona Ryder and Victoria Beckham (see image below) who have all starred in Marc Jacobs flamboyant campaigns! So why has the all-american New York city-inspired designer decided to feature Cher and Willow dressed in steam-punk, Gothic romance style ensembles for their new season campaign? We think it’s a pretty nifty marketing strategy – it would be hard to come across someone who doesn’t recognise one of the chosen celebs! With a 55 year age gap, Jacobs new ads are sure to turn the heads of women from any generation and evoke them with emotion, just as his timeless collections aim to do so.
