Holiday Report: Top Spring Getaways

Spring has arrived, to bring us brighter days and the promise that summer is close-by. Welcome in the sunshine and treat yourself to a little getaway from the everyday hustle. Whether you are looking to catch the rays, explore a city’s culture or just sit-back and revitalise, there are amazing places not too far from your doorstep. Here are our perfect destinations for a short-haul spring holiday.

Dublin

Hop on the ferry (or plane for speedier folk) for a few days in the beautiful Irish capital, Dublin. Although small, the city is rich in heritage, culture and diversity – from the National Musuem of Ireland, to the tranquil Botanical Gardens or historic St Patrick’s Cathedral. Going to the local pub is a must, especially for a chance to mingle with the friendly locals, also be sure to take a trip to the Guinness Storehouse, learn about brewing this famous ale and have a pint yourself as you take in the 360 degree city view. You are not short of wonderful places to stay in too – the Number 31 hotel gives you the best of quaint architecture with modern living, in a tucked away mews, it is quiet and just a short walk from the sights.

Amsterdam

As the native tulips bloom, we believe Spring may be the best time of year to visit Amsterdam. The city’s history melds with the local’s urban lifestyle, wander along the waterside streets to admire 17th century architecture before you nip into the cool Ciel Blue for Michelin-star, seasonal grub. If you head over in April you’ll witness the city in a sea of Orange for Kings Day, a joyful celebration full of festivities including open-air shows in the grande Vondelpark – where we suggest you also take a moment relax in the Netherlands sunshine. Wake up to the stunning city views at the Waldorf Astoria, in simple luxury it offers spa treatments, award-winning food and only a stone’s
throw from the centre.

The Cotswolds

For those looking for solitude close-to-home, The Cotswolds is the perfect place. This area of outstanding beauty spans across the English south-west, with rolling hills it is great for long-day-treks or little rambles. Spring is a wonderful time to visit this idyllic corner, warmer weather encourages lush grasslands and pretty flowers to over-take the meadows, and the locally produced food is served up in delicious dishes at The Lords of the Manor Hotel. Escape from the modern-day and stay in a Finnish-style log cabin, to breath the fresh air and watch the wildlife right from your door.

Seville

Now, to take you a little further a field, to the historic city of Seville, with artistic scenery alongside the fun Spanish vibe, it is a great destination to escape the day-to-day life. The Moorish era architecture has a distinctive feel; awe-inspiring Cathedrals and mansions line the charismatic streets whilst museums and galleries sit on the waterside. Experience the siesta-charm and take in a concert at the  Museo del Baile Flamenco, followed by authentic tapas from La Brunilda. To make the most of your stay in Seville, stay in one of the luxury city-centre apartments and look out onto the beautiful Spanish landscape.
