Kicking off the awards season on the Hollywood calendar on Sunday night were the Golden Globes, setting the trends for both red-carpet fashion and the names to watch this awards season. This years show saw Steve Jobs and The Revenant being the multi-award winners of the night, with its stars – Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio – winning acting accolades for their respective parts. Elsewhere, Matt Damon, Brie Larson, Jennifer Lawrence and Sylvestor Stallone also collected the big acting awards.
With host Ricky Gervais poking fun at some of the biggest names in film and television, it was at times a show to watch through your hands during the cringe-worthy gags. One of our favourite moments however, had to be Leonardo Di’Caprio’s face when Lady Gaga brushed passed him to accept her award – watch here if you missed the hilarious clip.
But honestly, we were more interested in seeing the fashion dreams on the red carpet than the actual award ceremony and the style certainly didn’t disappoint. Beiges and nudes have been prevailing red-carpet trends over the past few years – both figuratively and literally speaking. Vanilla, gold and navy have replaced black as the fail safe shades of choice for actresses taking to the awards show red carpet and Armani, Versace and Dior have become the go to houses for those seeking to tread it tastefully. There were certainly some interesting necklines, echoing the current trend for cut-outs, some stunning pink moments and of course the fail-safe award show red.
