The great gates of Glastonbury open in days time and thus begins the most celebrated festival of contemporary entertainment, perhaps in the world, ever!! Established in 1970, the glorious event sees over 200,000 visitors frolicking in its fields every year. The festival boasts a more than generous helping of popular music, dance, comedy, theatre, circus and in fact, almost any performing art you shake a stick at. It’s no wonder then, that ‘Glasto’ (as dubbed by its attendees) has become synonymous with the beginning of the great British summer… and what better way to celebrate the summer solstice than by reveling with like-minded fun-lovers, hippies, ravers and a star-studded line-up of celebrity performers in the sun-drenched paddocks of Worthy Farm, Somerset. Unless it rains of course, in which case the same applies, although instead of being drenched by the sun, you’re drenched in one hilarious, colossal mud bath…!
Whilst those of us who didn’t manage to bag ourselves tickets (of which all sold within 25 minutes of their release!) sit inside full of regret promising to go next year, seasoned festival go-ers prepare themselves and first-timers are roused with anticipation, and rightly so. In 1995, Liam Gallagher was spotted kissing Robbie Williams on the cheek and in 2013, 50kg of tomatoes were thrown in the great tomato fight and so, the excitement for this years headlines begins to build. Gracing the ears of those lucky enough to be in attendance this year are Kanye West (we’re expecting this performance to make the news), Lionel Richie and the Foo Fighters to name just a few.
Whilst we advise making space in your backpack for both wellies and sun cream and to indulge in some delicious delicacies from one of the eight-hundred stalls, we are also pretty good at giving fashion advice here at Jules B too, so below we have listed our favourite festival picks…
