But step away from the shop bought instant mix and instead follow this simple yet delicious recipe to create a homemade version of a timeless winter classic. This tasty Coffee Hot Chocolate recipe ticks all the boxes without denying a cafferine addict their fix courtesy of Chungah at Dam Delicious. Sumptuously smooth with just the right amount of sweetness and kick of coffee liqueur, this effortless creamy recipe will help you beat the chill this season and may even become your favourite winter warmer.
2 cups milk
2 tablespoons sugar
1 1/2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
Pinch of nutmeg
1 fl. oz coffee liqueur (such as Kahlúa or similar)
Whipped cream, for serving
Mini marshmallows, for serving
Salted caramel, for serving
Chocolate syrup, for serving
In a medium saucepan, combine milk, sugar, cocoa powder, cinnamon and nutmeg over medium heat until heated through, about 2-3 minutes.
Once combined remove from heat and stir in coffee liqueur.
Top with whipped cream, mini marshmallows, salted caramel and/or chocolate syrup, if desired, and serve immediately.
