This week the world’s gaze focused on the bright lights, boho beats and neon vibes of the annual Coachella Music and Arts Festival. Nestled in the Coachella Valley in the Californian desert, the world famous Empire Polo Club has played host to the two week extravaganza for the last 15 years and continues to draw in a whole host of festival goers including the rich and famous. Whilst we (those of us on the other side of the pond) battle with tumultuous spring weather, we can only look on with envious eyes at scenes of the sun drenched and ultra chic, whilst waiting for Glastonbury to bring the wellies out of retirement. So what have we missed? Here are a few Coachella highlights from the first weekend.
Beyonce steals Solange’s spotlight
Mrs Carter, joined her younger sister on stage for a playful dance-off during her performance. Social media sites went crazy and within minutes videos of the two dancing an energetic two step landed on the web.
The hip-hop band made a massive comeback at Coachella this year, the band not only performed but headlined the first weekend. Firm favourites were blasted into the crowd including ‘Hey Ya’ and ‘Ms. Jackson’ scenes resembled a classic house party as festival goers boogied on down to the classics.
Nas & Jay Z
After burying the hatchet back in 2005 the duo had never shared the same stage since, something must have been in the spring air as the pair reunited on stage for a celebration of Nas’s debut album which turned 20 this year.
Gwen Stefani joined Pharrell Williams on stage for a rendition of Hollaback Girl, the audience was once again reminded quite simply of how talented Mr Williams is especially when other artists such as Snoop Dogg, Puff Daddy, Nelly, Busta Rhymes and Diplo also joined him on stage.
