This week played host to one of the most highly anticipated, glamorous events of the fashion calendar; the CFDA awards hosted by John Waters to award outstanding contributions made to fashion. On June 2nd the elite descended on the Lincoln Center in New York glittering the red carpet with fashion excellence from celebrities such as Naomi Campbell, Alessandra Ambrosio, Anja Rubick, Anna Wintour and Marion Cotillard.
Never an event to shy from controversy, the CFDA red carpet sparked fashion debate from none other than the queen of pop herself, Rihanna. Receiving an award for ‘Fashion Icon’ presented by legendary Anna Wintour, the starlette donned a barely there, custom made, Adam Selman flapper inspired dress encrusted with 216,000 Swarvoski diamonds that was entirely sheer.
Some of our favorite looks of the night came from;
Lupito Nyong’o in a sleek Suno ensemble,
‘Gossip girl’ Blake Lively in a retro 60’s inspired Michael Kors shift dress,
Dree Hemingway in a contrasting pattern floor length dress by DvF,
Joan Smalls in Grecian Prabel Gurung gown,
Solange Knowles dazzled in a custom made Calvin Klein,
Red carpet aside the pinnacle of the night was the awards presented for ‘Best Accessories’ won by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen for the Row, ‘Best Women’s Wear’ won by Joseph Alturarra and ‘Best Men’s Wear’ won by Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osbourne for Public School.
The CDFA took a step into the social media world and presented for the first time in CFDA history an award for ‘Best Instagrammer’ won by @aguynamedpatrick.
The winning post was of something close to all our hearts, a tray of burgers.
