4 Resolutions to Improve Health and Wellness for 2019

Wellness has become a bit of a buzzword in recent years, but there’s a reason everyone’s talking about it.

There’s a whole host of things we can do to look after ourselves and live more fulfilling lives, whether it’s committing to a self-care routine, being more aware of our physical and mental health or looking outwards to our environment and doing more to take care of it. Wellness is a dynamic process of change and growth, through which we are able to become aware of and make choices toward a more healthy and satisfying life. This includes physical, mental and social well-being, which are all equally important.

So, you want to kick-start your wellness journey and live a happier, healthier lifestyle, but where do you begin? We’re sharing some simple resolutions for the year ahead to get you started.

Introduce regular exercise into your routine

Getting fit is an important part of any wellness routine, as you’ll see a host of benefits including increased energy levels and improved overall health. Try to exercise for at least 30 minutes per day, combining aerobic, strength and stretching exercises for the best results. If you’re not used to exercising regularly, you’ll need to find your motivation to help you keep up a routine. Think about why you want to get fit and what your exercise goals are, then you’ll have more of an incentive to achieve these. Start with realistic fitness goals and get used to these before working your way up. Eat more healthily

Focus on eating better this year to aid your workout efforts and give your health and wellbeing a further boost. A key step is making sure your diet is well-balanced and nutritious, which means it includes fruits and vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts, fish and olive oil. It’s fine to indulge every so often, but limiting your intake of sugars and fatty foods will go a long way in improving physical health as well as your outlook. 2019 is the year to stop the crazy diets and calorie counting, and instead focus on the quality of the foods you’re eating.

Be more environmentally friendly

This year, become a better you by being kinder to the world around us. Leading a lifestyle that is respectful to our environment and minimises any harm done to it is a critical part of environmental wellness, which inspires us to think more about our everyday actions and our attitude towards consumption and waste. Reducing your plastic use is a great place to start, as we all have a part to play in the huge environmental problems caused by single-use plastics. Say no to plastic straws, avoid plastic bags and carry a reusable bottle to cut down your plastic use and save money, too. A BPA-free S’well bottle is a great choice, and these eco-friendly bottles from sister brand S’ip by S’well are fun, vibrant and will keep cold drinks cold for 24 hours, or hot drinks hot for 12.

Nurture relationships

Social wellbeing is another key aspect of overall health and wellness, which is why you shouldn’t let your busy schedule get in the way of  spending time with friends and family. Make time for your loved ones this year and enjoy your favourite pastimes and activities together, as having fun and building a support network is important to keep you happy, healthy and on track to reaching your goals.
