The MTV Europe Music Awards is one of the biggest showbiz events of the year, presented by MTV Networks Europe. Most commonly known and referred to as the EMAs, the ceremony awards fan-voted prizes to the biggest names in music. The annual event was first held in 1994 and has since been regarded as one of the biggest award ceremonies within the music industry. This year, the MTV EMA’s was held at The SSE Hydro, Glasgow, Scotland, on the 9th November 2014. This was Glasgow’s first time hosting, with previous cities such as London, Liverpool and Belfast acting as the host, the night was aired on channel 5, MTV UK and MTV Music; drawing in an average audience of more than 2.3 million TV viewers.
Some of the biggest names in showbiz stepped out for the ceremony which was hosted by US hip hop artist Nicki Minaj. Nicki wowed her audience by swapping her outfit several times during the night, opening the show with a jaw-dropping silver two piece, keeping the audience on their toes; Nicki also changed her wigs with each outfit from long to short, straight to curly. The host stuck to the night’s broad time-travel theme, giving the crowd doses of the past, present and future. Nicki opened the night with a performance of her 2010 hit ‘Super Bass’. As the night went on, there were performances from artists such as U2, Ariana Grande, Ed Sheeran, Alicia Keys and Enrique Iglesias, amongst others.

The boys did not attend the event so were unable to accept and collect their awards in person however they thanked MTV in a video message and accepted the fan award on behalf of their loyal ‘Directioners’ for Biggest Fans, however 21-year-old Zayn Malik was missing from the clip and fans were quick to take to Twitter to express their concern.
Ozzy Osbourne was honored with the Global Icon Award, the Black Sabbath font-man collected the award from former Guns n’ Roses guitarist Slash, who later paid tribute to Ozzy by performing his 1980’s hit ‘Crazy Train’ with Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators and Simon Neil. When presenting the award, Slash spoke highly of Ozzy:
“This is a guy who does not know how to do ordinary. He scares the hell out of most people and all bats. But to me he is a gentle man and a gentleman.”

MTV have already announced that the 2015 MTV EMA will be held at the Mediolanum Forum in Milan, Italy, on the 25th October as part of the Expo 2015 activities.
